This is the second iteration of a prose workshop I host in my home in Kensington, Brooklyn, loosely modeled after Dodie Bellamy’s long-standing summer workshop in San Francisco. We’ll start each session with short writing exercises and 15-20-minute spotlights highlighting the work of 1-2 writers in the group, then turn to workshop of prepared manuscripts. Everyone will have an opportunity to workshop two short manuscripts.
If there is a desire to do so, we’ll also read short published pieces together and discuss. In short, this workshop will be what we make of it. The goal is to form an intimate community of writers in which everyone feels excited to share and get feedback on their in-progress work. All levels and genres welcome—my expertise is more prose-leaning but I have experience working with students who are producing poetry and cross-genre work.
I will have seltzer and light snacks on hand. There is one cat. I will have allergy medicine available.
Since it will be summer and you may be wondering: YES, I do have A/C—a reliably powerful wall unit.
Because of the intimate setting and limited number of seats, I am asking interested parties to apply before registering—by which I mean share some info with me about your writing background, goals, and level of commitment to a summer workshop.
